Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian tradition, he was also one of the four Evangelists and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist.

He is the patron saint of accountants, actors, bookkeepers, bankers, tax collectors, civil servants, customs officials, security guards, stockbrokers, and taxi drivers. His feast day is September 21st.
